Liverpool have joined Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle in the race to sign highly-rated Charlton prospect Joe Gomez, reports the Express.
The versatile defender, who played at both right and centre-back for the Addicks this season, broke into the team making 24 appearances during the latter half of the season due to a slew of injuries, and caught the eye of several Premier League outfits, including the Reds.
The 18-year-old Englishman has represented his country at U16, U17 and U19 levels during his fledgling career, and looks set to reach the very top.
Brendan Rodgers has highlighted the player as one for the future, but will not come on the cheap, as the Championship side have informed interested parties they’ll need to package a deal worth a total of around £8m if they wish to sign Gomez this summer.
Their strongest rivals for the teenager are Arsenal, who have a strong rapport with Charlton following deals which saw Carl Jenkinson join the Gunners, and Francis Coquelin sign on a brief loan spell at The Valley earlier last season.
