Liverpool have made contact with Inter over the possible transfer of defender Andrea Ranocchia, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The 27-year-old had been linked by the Daily Star with both the Reds and Everton last year, and if Italian media are to be believed, Jurgen Klopp has reignited his interest in the Italy international and the player has already agreed to a move to Anfield.

Liverpool are down to the bare bones defensively after losing Joe Gomez, Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho, and most recently Dejan Lovren to injury.

The Reds are, per the Guardian, looking to recall Tiago Ilori from his loan spell at Aston Villa, but the Portuguese has never made a senior appearance for Liverpool, nor has he played for the Villans this term.

Ranocchia would perhaps be a more reliable alternative, but would come at some expense. He cost Inter around £14m when he joined from Genoa in 2011.

The 6ft 5in centre-back has turned out 10 times for Inter this season, but hasn’t featured since November.
