Liverpool are in pole position to land experienced Chelsea defender and England international Gary Cahill as they look to bolster their defensive options ahead of the remainder of the season, according to the Daily Star.
The 30-year-old centre-back has struggled to impose himself on Chelsea’s season so far, with changing managers and poor form preventing his playing chances.
However, given Liverpool’s current defensive state, hindered with injuries as well as simply terrible form at the back, a move for a player of Cahill’s ability and experience would be a smart move from Jurgen Klopp.
A deciding factor for Cahill in his potential move to Anfield will come in the form of his international career with England, because as he is not playing enough first-team football with Chelsea, he will not be making as much of an impression on England boss Roy Hodgson as he would have liked to have done this season.
Liverpool’s form at the back this season has been highly underwhelming, most recently shown by their narrow 5-4 victory over Norwich last Saturday.
