Liverpool forward Joao Teixeira is set to join Serie A side Fiorentina on a free transfer in the summer, according to Gianluca DiMarzio.

The 23-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and with no offer on the table, it looks like the club are willing to let him move on and Fiorentina have reportedly offered him a chance to join them in the summer.

The Reds paid around £800,000 to bring Teixeira to the club from Sporting in 2012, but he’s never been able to nail down a regular starting role.

He’s been used sporadically at times this season, mainly in cup games, but with competition for places so strong ahead of him, he hasn’t been able to earn a consistent run of starts, so the deal with Fiorentina makes sense for all parties.

At 23 years of age, Teixeira needs to be playing regular first team football and he isn’t getting that on Merseyside so he’ll be hopeful that a move to Italy provides him with an opportunity to start more games.
