Liverpool suffer setback in pursuit of Mario Gotze
Mario Gotze has seemingly confirmed he won’t be joining Liverpool this summer after the German revealed that he is looking forward to working under new Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti.
According to The Guardian, Gotze was a key summer target for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Despite the lack of regular game time this season, Gotze looks set to remain at Bayern.
The German midfielder told German outlet Bild:
I look forward to the new season in Munich and will do everything possible to be in top shape for my first training session under Carlo Ancelotti.
After making just 12 appearances under Pep Guardiola, a rumoured £20million deal was being discussed after it seemed that Gotze wasn’t in the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager’s plans next season.
To make matters worse for Gotze, he has ended his partnership with his long-term agents, Sports Total.
Gotze missed the end of the season and Bayern’s German Cup final against Dortmund due to a broken rib. The injury also means he will not be meeting up with the Germany squad prior to their Euro 2016 warm-up friendlies.
