Liverpool winger Sergio Canos has turned down the offer of a new contract, sources close to the player have told ESPN.

Canos, who spent last season on loan at Brentford, is about to enter the final twelve months of his contract, and the club have offered him a new deal.

But it is reported that the two parties are still some way away from agreeing terms regarding an extension.

During his spell at Griffin Park, Canos scored seven goals and made four assists in 38 league appearances on the way to a ninth place finish in The Championship.

The Spaniard then returned to Anfield to play in the Reds’ final Premier League game of the season, a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

To what extent Canos will be involved in the first-team next season remains a mystery however, with the 19-year-old’s game time likely to be limited because of no European football next season.

One thing that is for sure is Júrgen Klopp is likely to want to tie down the youngster for years to come given his progression recently, but whether a deal can be done, it remains to be seen.
