Sakho won’t face ban for drug violations
French publication L’Equipe reported Saturday that Liverpool FC defender Mamadou Sakho would not face a ban following his initial 30 day suspension for a drugs violation.
The Frenchman had been accused of using fat-burners that contained a substance on UEFA’s ‘banned list’. The infraction meant Sakho was unable to play in the final few games of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign, and missed the Europa League final.
The legal team of Sakho had argued that the substance in question was not on the banned list.
Sakho can return to the field from tomorrow, and has told Le Parisien he has been training twice daily in the last month.
France manager Didier Deschamps could call on the centre back if he wanted to. With the UEFA deadline for Euro 2016 23 man squads not until the 31st of May, there is a chance Sakho could end up appearing in home tournament after all.
The decision comes a little bit late for Reds fans though, as they were forced to play a European final without a first team player.
