Swansea to join race to sign Joe Allen
Swansea City are planning a bid for Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen, reports the BBC.
Premier League rivals Stoke City had a £13m bid for the Wales international accepted on Wednesday evening.
But Allen’s former club Swansea are now preparing to enter the race to sign the 26-year-old, who starred for Wales at Euro 2016.
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has said, “Joe is one of our own players and if at all possible we would probably make that signing.”
Allen came through the youth ranks at the Welsh club and made 127 appearances for their first-team prior to moving to Liverpool for £20m in 2012.
But despite being named in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament for this summer’s European Championships, during which Wales reached the Semi-Finals, ‘the Welsh Xavi’ has been made surpless to requirements at Anfield.
Speaking of Allen’s potential exit, Klopp said earlier in the week, “I like the guy, I really think he is a wonderful footballer.
“But I knew this before the European Championships, during the European Championships, and now, but its all about respecting a contract, to negotiate or not – that’s it, there’s nothing to discuss.
“I haven’t seen him since the middle of May (in Basel). When there’s something to say about this, i’ll call you!”
