16-year-old Liam Millar scored a hat-trick on his debut as Liverpool U18s beat Blackburn Rovers 4-0 in their season opener at the Academy.
The Canadanian youth international, who signed from Fulham this summer, produced an assured performance in front of goal as Neil Critchley’s side got their campaign up and running with a victory on Monday morning.
Millar opened the scoring early on with a calm left-footed finish across the visiting goalkeeper, then Toni Gomes thought he doubled the lead but his effort was ruled out for offside.
After the break, Millar convered Herbie Kane’s cross from close range to grab his second, before the youngster completed his hat-trick shortly after, rounding off a good counter-attack with another cool finish.
Substitute Glen McAuley then completed the scoring with a fourth in injury time.
The victory takes the young Reds joint-top of the league after match one, with a trip to Manchester United on Saturday next up.
