Liverpool left White Hart Lane with just a point after Danny Rose’s equaliser cancelled out James Milner’s first-half penalty, the game ending 1-1.
Whilst a draw at Tottenham isn’t the worst result, Liverpool will be disappointed not to have won the game after being the better side for the majority of the game.
Phillipe Coutinho missed a sitter in the opening minutes, and Spurs looked a bit better for a short spell before Liverpool took control and the Reds fully deserved to go ahead.
Erik Lamela’s foul on Roberto Firmino gave Liverpool a spot-kick, one which Milner converted.
Sadio Mane thought he’d doubled the lead in the second half, but Adam Lallana was adjudged to have been fractionally offside in the build up, so the goal was ruled out.
Rose got the equaliser after getting on the end of an Eric Dier cross and beating Simon Mignolet at his near post.
There were chances for both teams in the closing minutes, but neither side could get the winner.
Here are my player ratings from the game:
Simon Mignolet - 6
Mignolet made a few decent saves but, maybe I’m being harsh here, I think he should save the goal. Getting beat at the near-post is almost always due to bad angles and whilst the Belgian did well to rush out at Rose, I think he got his angles wrong.
Nathaniel Clyne - 6
The goal did come from Clyne’s side but I don’t think he was at fault, he rightly tucked in with his runner. Bit disappointed with him in attack, he often lacked an end product in the final third.
Dejan Lovren - 7
When Harry Kane out-muscled Lovren early on, it looked like he was in for a torrid time, but from that moment on, he defended really well. He was aggressive, but not overly so.
Joel Matip - 8
Matip defended really, really well and looked very comfortable on the ball too. Highly encouraging display.
James Milner - 6
Whilst he scored the penalty and had a solid performance on the whole, he did get caught under a long ball in the build-up to the goal.
Jordan Henderson - 7
Jordan Henderson was much better today. He played in the deeper role and won the majority of his battles and passed the ball much better too.
Adam Lallana - 6
Worked tirelessly once again but didn’t impact the game too much. Had a huge chance to win the game late on but his lack of pace worked against him. Probably gets a better mark if not for a linesman’s flag – fine margins and all that!
Georginio Wijnaldum - 6
Got into some good positions to have a strike at goal but, if truth be told, he was a bit like the invisible man. Not exactly sure what his role is.
Sadio Mane - 8
Excellent once again. His movement and pace terrify defenders. Might need to calm down a touch in future, he was lucky not to be sent off after a few late fouls when he was already on a booking. Again, he was unlucky with the disallowed goal.
Phillipe Coutinho - 5
Missed an absolute sitter early on and another decent chance not long after. Fresh back from injury and it showed.
Roberto Firmino - 7
Worked his backside off as usual, and was involved in a lot of the things Liverpool did well in attack. Won the penalty too.

Origi, Sturridge & Stewart all came on late but didn’t really get the chance to do much at all. – N/A
