Newcastle want to take Markovic on loan
Lazar Markovic is considering the possibility of joining Newcastle United on a season-long loan deal, according to Melissa Reddy.
The 22-year-old rejected the chance to join Portuguese side Sporting, who were willing to pay £16m for him, but he is apparently open to dropping down to the Championship for a year to prove that he is good enough to play in England.
Of course, if he makes the move and Newcastle get promoted, there’s a good chance that he could make a permanent switch to the North East and try to build a career in the Premier League there rather than at Liverpool.
The Reds paid Benfica around £20m to sign Markovic but the Serbian has never really been able to hold down a place in the side. He spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce, but hardly set the world alight there either.
Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that Markovic is surplus to requirements, so a move to join ex-Reds boss Rafa Benitez at Newcastle makes sense for the winger,
