Liverpool’s very good record against the league’s best teams under Jurgen Klopp continued with a 1-1 draw against top of the table Chelsea.
The Reds started the game much better than they have in recent weeks, although they still didn’t mange to create too many chances.
Chelsea took the lead, undeservedly, through a David Luiz free-kick, one that took Liverpool completely off guard.
Liverpool didn’t let the goal get to them and stayed in the game and got themselves level in the second half thanks to Gini Wijnaldum’s header.
The Reds had a few chances to win the game from Roberto Firmino but have Simon Mignolet to thank for keeping them in the game after he saved Diego Costa’s penalty.
Here are my player ratings from the game:
Simon Mignolet - 7
Fell asleep for the Chelsea goal and his kicking was pretty poor. Made up for it with the penalty save.
Nathaniel Clyne - 6
Pretty solid in defence but his use of the ball in attack wasn’t very good.
Joel Matip - 5
A few uncharacteristic mistakes gave away the penalty, although it looked harsh.
Dejan Lovren - 5
Kept putting the team under pressure by committing silly mistakes.
James Milner - 7
Dealt with Victor Moses well overall. Played a major part in the goal too.
Jordan Henderson - 8
Looked to move the ball quickly and made some crucial tackles and interceptions.
Emre Can - 6
Had a pretty poor first half but grew into the game in the second.
Gini Wijnaldum - 8
Put in a battling performance in the midfield and topped it off with the crucial goal.
Adam Lallana - 7
Lallana leads the press so well and did the same in this game.
Roberto Firmino - 5
Missed two very good chances and was a bit careless with the ball.
Philippe Coutinho - 5
His touch seemed to have vanished, which was unusual.
