Things have been tough for Mario Gotze over the last few years.

After bursting onto the scene with Dortmund, his big money move to Bayern Munich didn’t go as planned and he returned to the Westfalenstadion to fulfil his potential.

However, a series of muscular issues have prevented Gotze from featuring regularly for Dortmund who were forced to sideline the midfielder indefinitely with a metabolic disorder which the club are trying to manage.

Jurgen Klopp, the man who gave Gotze the platform to impress at Dortmund, would like to bring him to Anfield but only on Liverpool’s terms, say Goal.

Having always been a big fan of the 24-year-old, Klopp believes he can unlock the huge potential the 2014 World Cup winner has in his locker.

That being said, Gotze is not a priority summer target for Liverpool who will only pursue a deal if it suits them.

Last summer, the attacking midfielder rejected the chance to reunite with Klopp at Liverpool in favour of a glamorous return to Dortmund which hasn’t really worked out thus far.

Liverpool are strong in the central midfield area but a player of Gotze’s quality would always be a welcome addition.
