Loris Karius hasn’t reached the expectations set of him following his £5.25m move from Mainz to Liverpool last summer.
The former Manchester City youth ‘keeper started 10 consecutive Premier League games in the Autumn, with Liverpool losing just one of those games but high-profile errors against Bournemouth and West Ham along with keeping just three clean sheets prompted Jurgen Klopp to reinstate Simon Mignolet as the team’s No.1 stopper.
Karius is still only 23 and has a long-term contract at Anfield which will allow him to continue to develop and reach his potential but Liverpool are already eyeing up another young ‘keeper to bring into the fold.
The Mirror claim that Liverpool are to step up their interest in Udinese’s teenage sensation Alex Meret, dubbed the ‘new Dino Zoff’.
Meret has made just two appearances for Udinese but has impressed this season on loan with Serie B side SPAL, conceding just 17 goals in 18 league starts this season, with seven clean sheets in the process.
Udinese are considering promoting the 19-year-old into the first-team next season and make him their No.1 between the sticks, but Liverpool are preparing a move themselves to bring Meret in to compete with Karius and Mignolet.
