If you were to ask any Liverpool fan what the main problem with the current squad is, it’s quite likely that the response would either be focussed on the defence or the depth.
The Reds have leaked more goals than they would have liked to this season, with a lot of mistakes being made at the back and a reasonable amount of goalkeeping errors.
Along with this, the amount of options at Liverpool’s disposal in recent times has been questionable too. There’s no doubting the quality of the starting line-up, but the bench doesn’t exactly fill anyone with great hope.
However, one position that Liverpool do have depth in is between the sticks. Both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have been used this season by Jurgen Klopp, but the problem isn’t to do with numbers, it’s to do with the quality.
Neither goalkeeper has convinced this season and the Reds should certainly look to rectify that.
Here are some goalkeepers they should look to sign.
Samir Handanovic
Handanovic has been consistently excellent for Inter Milan and although he doesn’t have age on his side, he’d be a massive upgrade on the current goalkeeping options.
Bernd Leno
Leno is a superb goalkeeper and has experience in Europe. He’s been a mainstay in Bayer Leverkusen’s team and would be a superb signing.
Kasper Schmeichel
Schmeichel has been superb for Leicester in recent years and has hit top form once again for them. He’s got Premier League experience and would provide a safe pair of hands.
Lukas Hradecky
Hradecky has enjoyed an excellent breakthrough year for Eintracht Frankfurt and is a very underrated goalkeeper. He’d be a great signing.
Joe Hart
Hart has been linked to the majority of Premier League clubs given his dismissal at Manchester City. He’s currently on loan at Torino out in Italy but would provide athleticism and experience to Liverpool.
Jasper Cillessen
Cillessen has been a backup to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen at Barcelona and he’s simply too good to be an understudy. He’s good with his feet and has age on his side.
Fernando Muslera
Muslera is arguably Galatasaray’s best player and has been for a number of years. Although he’s not the young, promising goalkeeper he once was, he has undoubted quality and would be an impressive addition.
