Even when there’s football to be played, we can’t help but look ahead to the transfer windows in anticipation of the players who’ll be joining the club.
I’m no different either, I’ve had my mind simultaneously on the race for the top four and also the upcoming summer.
I’ve studied every link, looked at every player on YouTube and decided exactly who I want the Reds to buy.
So, if I get my wish, here are the players who we’ll see at the club next year, keeping in mind that I’ve selected realistic targets and not your Lionel Messi’s etc:
Virgil van Dijk
My first choice is Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk. Now that Vincent Kompany is seemingly made of cheese, I think the Dutchman is the best defender in the league. He might cost around £50m but I’d pay that if I was running the show at Liverpool. The basic fact is that the Reds let too many goals in and Van Dijk should help out in that regard.
Ryan Sessegnon
One of biggest annoyances with Liverpool in recent years is them missing out on Dele Alli, even though it was pretty obvious how good he’d be. Ryan Sessegnon is the same. The kid is playing regular football and is performing well in the Championship and he’s only 16-years-old. You simply must buy these players, it’s a no-brainer. I’m quite happy for Liverpool to have James Milner at left-back and Sessegnon as his deputy.
Naby Keita
Naby Keita is the typical modern day midfielder and he just seems ideal for a Jurgen Klopp side. If we add him to the squad, we then have him, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Emre Can and Adam Lallana. That sounds good to me!
Timo Werner
Apparently, Julian Brandt is Liverpool’s main forward target and that makes sense as he’s a good player but I would prefer Leipzig’s Timo Werner.
He is comfortable playing in any of the three forward positions and his goal return this year has been great.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
I’m not as high on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as some but as a versatile squad player, he’d be useful, provided he can stay fit. He provides cover in a number of areas and for around £20m, he’d be a smart buy.
Pepe
I know, I know, stay with me! Pepe is available on a free transfer this summer and I know he’s getting older but my word, he’s a winner. Liverpool need more b******s and Pepe is certainly a b*****d! He’ll do whatever it takes to win and I’m a big fan of that!
