In another match where the implications are only increasing, Liverpool stumbled badly, victimised by the none other than cast-off Christian Benteke. The Reds continue to make things more difficult than they need to be by falling to Crystal Palace at Anfield 1-2.

With both Manchester clubs within striking distance and with games in hand, every match in this run-in has become massive in Liverpool’s chase of a Champions League place. This performance proved a major dent in those ambitions.

Again, Liverpool only have themselves to blame as defensive errors undercut any positives to be gleaned from Philippe Coutinho’s exquisite free-kick. Palace also employed a game plan that has worked all too often against the Reds; remain patient, defend deep, and wait for the mistakes to happen. It all looked far too familiar with so many simple errors being repeated.

Whether the Reds are able to recover or not from this match will be interesting. The side looked subdued playing at home, even fragile as their lead drained away, unable to find enough threat in the final third or balance to grind out a win.

Here are four findings from the match.
