Philippe Coutinho has asked to leave Liverpool this summer, Paul Joyce has confirmed.

The Brazilian international is understood to be keen on securing a move to La Liga giants Barcelona ahead of the forthcoming season, but Liverpool are keen to avoid selling such a key player so late on in the window.

Coutinho has been ruled out of Liverpool’s opening game of the season against Watford tomorrow, with what is suspected to be a back injury.

Barcelona have reportedly had an opening offer rejected for the former Inter Milan playmaker, with Liverpool remaining adamant in their position that Coutinho will not be sold this summer.

Ernesto Valverde is looking to spend the money from the sale of Neymar earlier on in the window, and has identified Coutinho as one of his primary targets.

However, it will certainly take a mammoth offer to sway Liverpool from their reluctance to offload the midfielder.
