Emre Can has been informed by Jurgen Klopp that he cannot leave the club this summer, even though he only has a year left on his current contract, according to the Mirror.
Can and the club have been trying to negotiate a new deal over the summer, but it is believed that they are still no closer to an agreement.
There is added pressure on Liverpool to sort a deal out as the 23-year-old is attracting interest from abroad, with Italian giants Juventus willing to offer £23 million for his services.
However, Klopp has made it clear that he would rather lose the German international for free next summer, instead of cashing in on him now.
Liverpool are already light in the midfield, having sold Lucas to Serie A side Lazio for £5 million. They have yet to replace him after their attempt to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig fell through. Furthermore, Adam Lallana is expected to be sidelined for a couple of months.
