Liverpool will appeal the length of Sadio Mane’s ban following his red card away at Manchester City on Saturday, according to Paul Joyce.
Twitter: Liverpool to appeal length of Sadio Mane’s ban. Club feels three matches excessive. Hearing tomorrow (@_pauljoyce)
The Senegal international was given his marching orders near the end of the first half after being judged to have led with an excessively high foot in a challenge on City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes.
This incident was the turning point of the game, and City went on to beat 10-man Liverpool in a crushing 5-0 win.
Much controversy has surrounded the red card, and Liverpool are now looking to see if they can have the three-game ban Mane is set to endure reduced, or maybe even rescinded.
Mane is a key component in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side, and enjoyed a superb start to the Premier League campaign until the red.
The Reds will hope that their appeal is understood in tomorrow’s hearing.
