Liverpool predicted XI: Leicester City (A – League Cup)
Liverpool will be looking to put a rough few days behind them when they take the short trip south to face Leicester City in the Third Round of the League Cup.
The Reds will definitely be resting a few players ahead of the weekend’s game against the same opponents but Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for a win to settle some of the nerves that seem to be a bit rattled amongst the fan base.
Which XI will he choose to start the game?
Here’s what I think:
Danny Ward
Klopp has already revealed that Ward will he Liverpool’s cup goalkeeper this season. His motivation for a clean sheet is easy; getting one will lead to him getting more game time.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Klopp did say that John Flanagan isn’t ready to play 90 minutes so I think Trent will start and come off some time in the second half.
Ragnar Klavan
Joel Matip has played every game this season and he’ll need a rest, so Klavan gets the nod.
Joe Gomez
Gomez has been played at right-back all year so he’ll be happier to be back playing in his favoured central role.
Andy Robertson
Robertson played at the weekend but with Alberto Moreno likely to play in the league game with the Foxes, I think the Scottish international will get the nod here.
Marko Grujic
Klopp has confirmed that Grujic will also start and with both Jordan Henderson and Emre Can likely to be rested, I think he will play as a number six.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
He came to Liverpool to be a midfielder, so here’s his chance to stake a claim!
Gini Wijnaldum
Gini sat out the Burnley game and I think Klopp will want his experience in midfield.
Philippe Coutinho
Phil looked very rusty when he came on against Sevilla and wasn’t much better against Burnley. I think he could do with the minutes in his legs here.
Ben Woodburn
The youngster is the toast of Wales at the minute. He shot to fame in the last League Cup campaign, let’s hope he can do it again.
Dominic Solanke
Solanke is another who needs some game time. He impressed enough in pre-season to leap ahead of Divock Origi in the pecking order and now’s his chance to show what he can do.
So, that’s the XI I think Klopp will pick, use our Squad Selector to predict the line-up you expect to see.
