Former Liverpool CEO Christian Purslow has heaped the praise on current Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
As quoted by Goal, the 53-year-old discussed Klopp’s reign at Liverpool so far on Sky Sports, and insisted that the German tactician is the perfect man to take the club forward.
He’s two years into this job that looked to be perfect for Jurgen Klopp. There are great similarities between what he achieved at Dortmund, what he was expected to achieve – which was to compete with an absolute behemoth in Bayern Munich, while spending less money, both on wages and in the transfer market. That is the job description at Liverpool.
Purslow referred to the difference in financial capability between Liverpool and other top Premier League clubs, and lauded Klopp for the work he is doing at the club.
There are revenue differences between Manchester United and Liverpool. Liverpool’s are still superb but they are a fraction of Manchester United.
And yet the Liverpool manager is expected to compete with United and beat them, exactly as Klopp did – winning two league titles in Germany against Bayern Munich with a fraction of their spending.
Klopp, who joined Liverpool from Borussia Dortmund in October 2015, managed to get the club back into the Champions League last season, and currently has the Reds sat in 7th place on the Premier League table.
The former Mainz boss has come under some criticism from sections of the Reds’ fanbase, and from pundits alike, for failing to rectify the team’s undeniable defensive frailties.
He is perfect for Liverpool. It is an innately difficult project, to compete with less money.
However, Purslow and the large majority of Liverpool’s fans believe that the pressure if off of Klopp, and that he is the right man to take the club forward for years to come.
