Liverpool have been dealt a major injury blow as Sadio Mane is set for up to six weeks on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury on international duty, the club have confirmed.

Mane was named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August after an impressive start to the season, netting in each of his first three league games.

Away on international duty over the last week with Senegal, Mane played a crucial part as they beat Cape Verde 2-0 but was forced off at the death after suffering a hamstring injury.

Further tests indicate that the injury is severe and the pacey winger will now miss approximately six weeks of action, which is a major loss for Liverpool.

Mane will miss this weekend’s visit of Manchester United, the trip to Tottenham next week along with games against Huddersfield and West Ham in addition to both Champions League group stage games against Maribor.

If initial predictions are accurate, Mane could return for the game against Southampton on November 18th, but the visit of Chelsea on the 25th seems a more likely return date.
