Jurgen Klopp defends under-fire left-back Alberto Moreno
Jurgen Klopp says that he will remain to trust Alberto Moreno “100 per cent” after a shocking performance against Sevilla in their UEFA Champions League game on Tuesday night.
Moreno was at fault for two goals as Sevilla came from behind to earn a draw. Liverpool blew a 3-0 lead against Moreno’s former employers having originally gone ahead through Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Klopp feels that Moreno was affected by the emotion of returning to his former club, but he insists that he is still happy with the full-back.
Klopp, as quoted by The Mirror said;
In Sevilla, everyone was talking to him like they were talking to a family member.
He left there and a lot of people are still there who he knows well. You lose one, two, three per cent of concentration, you come a little too late and that’s how it started. That’s how it is.
It’s not a player to blame. I am 100 per cent responsible for that. I told him I still trust him 100 per cent.
Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with Moreno’s resurgence this season. Moreno has gone on to establish himself as the Reds’ first choice left-back and some of his past mistakes can follow him in some games. However, Moreno has massively improved and it will be very hard for players such as James Milner to push for a place in that full-back role. The calamity defender everyone knows is slowly disappearing with every performance the Spaniard puts in.
