Liverpool team news: Chelsea (H)
Joel Matip is in contention for Saturday’s blockbuster clash with Chelsea after overcoming a recent knock.
Matip has missed the Reds’ last two games after sustaining the minor injury in training but has recovered in time for the visit of Antonio Conte’s men.
Meanwhile, manager Jurgen Klopp was tight-lipped on the possibility of Adam Lallana returning to the fold this weekend.
The Englishman has not featured for the Reds this season, sidelined by a thigh injury, but is believed to be on the verge of a comeback.
As quoted by Liverpool’s official website, Klopp delivered updates on his team’s condition:
Adam is on his way, no doubt about that. We have to see how we will handle this in the next few days and weeks.
Joel trained yesterday for the first time with the team and, again, we have to to see as well. But both give good signs – nothing else to say about that in the moment.
However, Emre Can is a doubt for the contest after suffering a “strange” muscular problem when he came on as substitute in Tuesday’s draw with Sevilla.
Klopp commented:
Emre struggles a little bit. A strange situation in the game, a little muscle [issue]. It could be close – he is a doubt, let me say it like this.
Can’s niggle will likely mean that skipper Jordan Henderson, who came under heavy fire following a below-par performance in midweek, retains his place.
