Liverpool still keen on van Dijk, amid Man City interest
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is still keen on bringing Virgil van Dijk to Anfield in January, however, Premier League leaders Manchester City are believed to have made him their main target during the upcoming window, the Liverpool Echo report.
Pep Guardiola’s side are currently facing a defensive injury crisis, with John Stones, Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy all out injured, leaving Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala the only recognised fit central defenders available.
Liverpool will be hoping that they do not face serious competition in their attempts to sign the £70m-rated Saints centre-back in January as Klopp looks to bolster his defensive options.
City are seemingly eyeing up the 26-year-old who the Reds desperately tried to land in the summer, with Real Sociedad’s Inigo Martinez also an option for Guardiola.
With van Dijk attracting plenty of interest amongst from City and Liverpool, it remains unclear whether van Dijk, who was keen on a move to Anfield, would opt for a move to Manchester instead, if Guardiola decided to make a move for the Dutch international.
