Liverpool not ready to pay £70m for Van Dijk
Liverpool are unwilling to pay £70m to sign Southampton centre back Virgil Van Dijk in January.
According to The Independent, Liverpool will not make a move for Van Dijk unless Southampton reduce their asking price.
Van Dijk was heavily expected to leave Southampton in the summer after he handed in a transfer request.
Instead, Southampton stood firm and kept hold of their – at the time – captain, with Liverpool lurking.
Liverpool were forced to issue an apology to Southampton for ‘tapping up’ Van Dijk after reports emerged that Jurgen Klopp spoke to the defender without permission.
Manchester City and Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Van Dijk ahead of the transfer window, as they eye up a potential move.
Southampton reportedly want £70m for Virgil Van Dijk, which would be a world-record fee for a central defender – and a club-record for Southampton.
Van Dijk was an unused substitute as Southampton lost 1-0 to Chelsea at the weekend.
