Liverpool player ratings: Arsenal (A)
Liverpool let a two-goal lead slip at the Emirates on Friday night as they drew 3-3 with Arsenal in one of the more entertaining matches of the season.
The Reds went in front through goals from Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah and looked set to see the game out, but Arsenal mounted a comeback and a goal from Roberto Firmino late on sealed a draw for Liverpool.
Same as Sevilla. Nothing new. Stunning in attack but an atrocious mentality and a back five that simply can’t be trusted. Lightning doesn’t strike twice unless there is an underlying problem.
Here’s how we rated the players after the game.
Simon Mignotlet – 2
Same old. Goes on a run of 10 games where he looks the part then reminds us why we need a new goalkeeper. Not as bad as is made out but not good enough to be Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Joe Gomez – 4
Don’t think his general play was bad at all but he has made the mistake of not attacking the ball twice now, costing us goals at West Ham and Arsenal. Don’t want to bury him as he has been by far our best defender this season but these individual defensive errors always seem to come from somewhere.
Dejan Lovren – 8
Superb. Let down by others.
Ragnar Klavan – 8
Superb. Another who was let down by those around him.
Andy Robertson – 7
Gives the ball away for the third but if we defend it, it’s forgotten about. Defended well and supported the attack superbly.
James Milner – 9
Considering he came into the game late, I thought he was absolutely outstanding. Bossed the midfield.
Emre Can – 7
Still a bit slow releasing it at times but was part of a midfield which for most of the game, strolled it.
Philippe Coutinho – 7
Lovely deft finish to break the deadlock. Was a constant threat but perhaps didn’t have his best game.
Sadio Mane – 7
Big decision to start him over the in-form Chamberlain but I think it was justified in the end. Scared the life out of their defence and used the ball to good effect.
Roberto Firmino – 8
Arsenal couldn’t live with him in the first half. His persistence out of possession and knowledge of where to be to hurt Arsenal when Liverpool had the ball. Fully deserved his slice of luck for the goal. Another superb showing.
Mohamed Salah – 8
Same as every week. Ripped the fullback apart and scored his goal. What a player we have signed… 21 goals and it’s not even Christmas. Plus, he isn’t even a striker.
