Predicting Liverpool’s summer transfer business
The January transfer window saw Liverpool spend a club record fee on Virgil van Dijk, as well as receive the second highest transfer fee of all time when they sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.
So, what lies ahead in the summer?
I’ve tried to predict the ins and out that we’ll see at Anfield when the current season ends:
In – Naby Keita (RB Leipzig)
We know this one is happening!
Out – Emre Can
Liverpool are hoping to tie Emre Can down to a new deal but I don’t see it happening. I’m pretty sure he’ll be a Juventus player next season.
In – Thomas Lemar (Monaco)
It might cost a fair bit but Jurgen Klopp has shown that he’s willing to wait for the ‘right’ players and spend big to get them if needed. It’s clear that the Reds want Lemar and all reports suggest that he fancies a move to Anfield too.
Out – Daniel Sturridge
Sturridge is on loan with West Brom already and I suspect that he’ll stay there on a permanent deal, if they stay up. If the Baggies are relegated, I still see the England striker being sold to another club.
In – Alisson (Roma)
I think Klopp knows that he needs to find himself a top class goalkeeper. Alisson seems to fit the bill in terms of talent and Roma are known for selling their better players.
Out – Simon Mignolet
Having been dropped for Loris Karius, I can’t see a way back for Mignolet now. At his age, he needs to be playing, not sitting on a bench.
In – Jamaal Lascelles (Newcastle)
Call this one a hunch. I’ve heard a few whispers that Liverpool like Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles and I have a feeling that they’ll look to get him in.
Out – Dejan Lovren
If I’m right and the Reds get Lascelles, I think Klopp will allow Lovren to leave, rather than be the club’s fourth choice centre back.
In – Kerem Demirbay (Hoffenheim)
Klopp is apparently a big fan of Hoffenheim’s Kerem Demirbay and I think Liverpool will be willing to spend a fair bit of cash to get him in.
Out – Lazar Markovic & Jon Flanagan
Two fringe players who have no future at the club.
