Loris Karius set to start against Porto
During the group stages of the Champions League, Jurgen Klopp decided to change his goalkeepers, with then first choice Simon Mignolet making way for Loris Karius.
So, now that Karius is the new number one in the Premier League, there was a thought that Klopp might select Mignolet for Wednesday’s knockout tie with Porto but, as reported by James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, Klopp will select his fellow countryman for the game.
The news will come as a blow to Mignolet, who would have been hoping to get some game time between now and the summer.
Having topped their group without losing a game, Liverpool will, like every group winner, play the away leg of the tie first and if Karius can repay his manager’s faith by keeping a clean sheet, the Reds will be confident of scoring at least one goal to ensure that they return to Anfield for the second leg with a victory.
