Timo Werner has been on Liverpool’s radar for the best part of a year following an impressive debut season with Red Bull Leipzig and the Reds are expected to revive their interest come the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old Germany international has 35 goals and 11 assists in 60 career appearances for Leipzig following a £10m move from Stuttgart in 2016, establishing himself as one of the top strikers in the Bundesliga.

Along with the Reds, Champions League holders Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for the striker, but they could face some fresh competition from rivals Atletico Madrid who see Werner as a potential replacement for Antoine Griezmann.

Liverpool are expected to allow West Brom loanee Daniel Sturridge to leave the club permanently in the summer which would leave them light in attack and Werner is a personal favourite of Jurgen Klopp’s.

Neither Danny Ings or Dominic Solanke have proven to be capable stand-ins for Roberto Firmino up front and Werner would give Liverpool another top-quality option in attack next season, should they be able to beat Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid to his signature.
