Porto defender Ivan Marcano is confident that his side can cope with Liverpool’s blistering attack when the two teams face off tonight in the Last 16 of the Champions League.
The Reds scored 23 goals in the Champions League group stages, including 14 in their three away games, and with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah in fine goalscoring form, there have been questions asked about Porto’s ability to prevent Liverpool from scoring.
However, Marcano, who is likely to play in this evening’s game after recovering from a thigh injury, says that even without the suspended Felipe, Porto are not weak at the back.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, he said:
Liverpool have a great attack but we have already shown that we also have a great team. We are not fragile. Our motivation is to go as far as possible in the Champions League. Liverpool’s forwards are very strong but we will work to expose their weak points and highlight our strong points.
The Spaniard also thinks that the two-legged tie will be a very close one and that his side are more than capable of knocking the Reds out
We know Liverpool are a very strong side. They want to move forward but so do we. Now we will face each other and we’ll soon see which is better. I think it’s going to be a balanced round.
