Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has admitted that he is considering making Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk his new captain for the national side.

Van Dijk worked with Koeman during the pair’s stint at Southampton and their working relationship was good. The defender signed a six-year deal on the south coast in 2016 under Koeman’s management.

However, on an international level, it seems Koeman is eager to continue working with Van Dijk and has even welcomed the possibility of making him the captain of Netherlands’ senior side.
Koeman was named as his country’s new boss this year after he was sacked by Liverpool’s rivals Everton earlier on in the season.
Van Dijk has been in excellent form for the Reds since signing for £75m from Southampton in January and will be keen to continue performing well with Netherlands in their upcoming friendlies.
