Liverpool join race for Jack Wilshere

Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Jack Wilshere from Arsenal at the end of the season, according to The Liverpool Echo.

Wilshere’s current contract at the Emirates runs out this summer, and so when the January transfer window opened, he became able to talk to clubs about signing for a free transfer on a pre-contract agreement.

Arsene Wenger said that he would start negotiations with Wilshere over a new contract in December, but has not yet reached a conclusion.

This is because the contract offered to the England midfielder is a 25% pay cut of his £120,000 per week current contract now, giving him £90,000 per week, while Mesut Ozil has just been given a £350,000 per week contract.

Clubs which have reportedly shown interest are Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus. However, he is reluctant to go abroad and wishes to stay in the Premier League.

Domestic clubs which have shown interest are West Ham and Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals, Everton, who would reportedly give Wilshere an £8m signing on fee.

However, Liverpool face more competition as it looks like Pep Guardiola wants to take Wilshere to Manchester.

While the Reds have the power in midfield of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gini Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson and the incoming Naby Keita, it does look like Emre Can may be on his way out for the same reason as Wilshere, and so the Englishman would be a great addition to Klopp’s side.
