John Arne Riise has admitted he did not expect left-back Andrew Robertson to perform as well as he has done this season.
The Liverpool legend said the signing did not excite him in the way a household name would have done. However, Robertson has performed to the top of his game this season, and after football fans mocking the signing when he joined the Reds, he is now being regarded as one of the best left-backs in the division.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Riise said:
To be honest, I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t understand why Liverpool bought him in the beginning. People were talking about getting a big name player at left-back.

Some may even compare Robertson to Riise; his pure desire to attack the opposition is one of Riise’s famous traits, and although Robertson probably does not take a free-kick like him, his aggression, stamina and speed are attributes which Riise wants in a Liverpool full-back.
I have been really impressed by him. He’s aggressive, he’s offensive, he’s quick and he never stops running.
Robertson will be hoping to prove himself once again in Liverpool’s biggest two games of the season against Manchester City in the Champions League, and guide his team to the semi-finals.
