Liverpool are reportedly prepared to rival Barcelona in their bid to sign Clement Lenglet from Sevilla this summer.
According to reports from Spanish news outlet Diario AS, as cited by the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are taking an interest in the French defender as he continues to impress at the back for Sevilla.
Lenglet has established himself as a key member of Vincenzo Montella’s plans and has enjoyed a positive season with Sevilla, both in La Liga and in the Champions League.
It’s been claimed that the Frenchman has a set release clause in his contract worth in the region of £40m. This would be a steep price to pay for Liverpool, especially given that they splashed out £75m on the signing of another central defender in Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in January.
Barcelona are seemingly leading the race to sign Lenglet and are ready to open talks as soon as they can. However, Jurgen Klopp’s interest has reportedly been piqued by the defender, and a summer move could yet be on the cards.
