Salah’s strike beats Ronaldo’s overhead kick to be named CL Goal of the Week
Mohamed Salah has beaten Cristiano Ronaldo to the Champions League Goal of the Week award, thanks to his strike over Manchester City.
After a stunning overhead kick in the first leg against Juventus, Ronaldo was deemed as a certainty to win the vote but he missed out on the award, which has caused confusion around Europe.
Of course, many neutrals will agree that Ronaldo’s goal, and even Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s strike in the second leg, were better than Salah’s chip but the Liverpool man is so popular in Northern Africa and the Middle East that he often wins such votes.
In fact, over a million people in Egypt voted for Salah in the country’s national election, even though he wasn’t on the ballot paper!
Salah has had a fine season netting 40 goals so far this season and is set to play a key role for Liverpool in the Champions League where they could meet Ronaldo’s side, Real Madrid if they can knock out his former side Roma.
