When Liverpool went 2-0 up with about ten minutes remaining against West Brom, three points looked to be safe but goals from Jake Livermore and Salomon Rondon wanted West Brom a point on a frustrating day for the Reds.
With Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final with Roma in mind, Jurgen Klopp made five changes to the team who beat Bournemouth.
Joe Gomez, Danny Ings, Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno got starts as Klopp looked to keep his squad fit and fresh.
Ings opened the scoring early on, his first goal since 2015, and despite a few nervy moments, the points looked secure when Salah got his 31st league goal of the season with a wonderful dinked finish.
However, the Reds were let down by a combination of terrible refereeing and poor defending and ultimately, they had to settle for a point.
Here’s how the Reds rated:
Lloris Karius - 5
Helped out his defence was some very good sweeping up but looked uneasy when the ball was in the air. Went walkabouts for the second goal.
Joe Gomez - 4
His first game back after his injury and it showed. His touch was poor and he was beaten easily too many times.
Virgil van Dijk - 8
Headed pretty much everything that came near him and was too strong for Rondon all game.
Ragnar Klavan - 4
Looked nervous throughout. Rondon looked to bully him at times and his use of the ball left a lot to be desired.
Alberto Moreno - 4
Another player who has hardly featured and he did his chances of getting more games no good whatsoever. Matt Phillips had the beating of him far too easily.
Jordan Henderson - 5
Looked decent in the first half but was largely anonymous in the second.
James Milner - 6
Used the ball well and did his defensive duties.
Gini Wijnaldum - 7
Very composed in midfield and full of energy.
Sadio Mane - 7
Delightful bit of skill in the build up to the first goal and he looked bright before he was taken off.
Mo Salah - 6
His finish was absolutely wonderful but other than that, he was actually pretty poor all game!
Danny Ings - 7
Got a well deserved goal that clearly meant a lot to him. Should have made it 2-0 but he couldn’t convert from close range. Should have had a penalty too but the terrible referee didn’t give it.
