Liverpool transfer news as massive Virgil van Dijk update emerges

Virgil van Dijk has entered the last year of his current deal as Liverpool wait to make an important decision on his future.

It goes without saying that the Dutchman is still the best in the business and has shown no signs of slowing down despite being well into his 30s.

Van Dijk has played every Premier League and UEFA Champions League game for Liverpool and also started each of the Netherlands’ four games during the ongoing international break.

And now, reports in England claim Liverpool want to extend his current deal beyond next summer.

Virgil van Dijk to get Liverpool contract extension

Football Insider report that the Liverpool skipper is in line for a new deal due to his outstanding performances and longevity.

An excerpt from the article reads: “Andoni Iraola still views him as a crucial part of his first-team plans for the season, and despite his contract being set to expire next summer, there are no immediate concerns.

“That is despite renewed interest from Real Madrid, who could look to take advantage of the centre-back’s situation to lure him away from Anfield when his current deal expires.

“Liverpool have delayed making a decision about Van Dijk’s future for now, but the high-profile interest from elsewhere and his impressive displays could now force their hand.”

The Reds should stop beating around the bush and sort out the skipper’s contract ASAP as he clearly has a lot of fuel left in the tank.
