Liverpool’s trip to Southampton ended in a 1-0 defeat and in truth, it could and should have been a lot worse.

Jurgen Klopp deployed Lucas in a deep midfield role next to Emre Can and Gini Wijnaldum with Adam Lallana deployed in the front three along with Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge.

Liverpool saw a lot of the ball early but couldn’t capitalise and it was the home side scored the first goal, when Ragnar Klavan’s mistake was punished with Nathan Redmond firing home. This come moments after a good Loris Karius save had kept the score 0-0.

Liverpool continued to dominate possession but hardly created a thing and if not for another Karius stop, could have been 2-0 down at the break.

The second half was quite frustrating too, with Redmond’s chip the best chance and Liverpool got out of jail. It could have easily been 3-0 to the home side.
