For all the ups and downs throughout Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as Liverpool manager, one thing has remained constant; his side’s ability to perform against the best sides in the Premier League.

In league games against Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham under the German, Liverpool have lost just once and that run continued as an in-form Spurs side were blown away by the Reds by two goals to nil, a scoreline which actually flattered the visitors.

The Reds have struggled to play against sides who set up to be resolute in defence but Spurs came to Anfield to win and this helped cause their own downfall.

Time and time again, they lost the ball trying to play out from the back, and poor Ben Davies at left-back was given no protection from Son Heung-min.

Liverpool’s two goals came via Sadio Mane, who was making his first Anfield start since his return from AFCON duty.

The second half was a professional performance as the Reds simply saw out the game in a measured, controlled manner that we are unaccustomed to seeing.
