Liverpool youngster has ‘bundles of quality’
Liverpool’s U23’s manager Mick Garrity has been waxing lyrical about Ben Woodburn’s quality as a player after starring in a 3-2 victory over Manchester City, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
The U23’s boss has been impressed with his development, after scoring twice and hitting the bar in the close win he’s really pulling out all the stops to get another appearance in the first team.
Mick Garrity says the Welshman has ‘bundles of quality’ as a footballer.
“I think when you can get him round the goal and round facing forward then he will hurt people,
“He’s been on the (first team) bench a lot and he probably hasn’t played as much as he wanted to play, but he can be really proud of the year that he’s had and the progression that he’s made this season. It’s not to be sniffed at what he’s achieved.” Garrity explained.
He goes on to add how his time training at Melwood with the first-team is helping his improvement.
You can see how they mature, you can see they make better decisions, and that’s just being around better players on a daily basis. That’s what you are hoping for.
“They go to Melwood with the first team every single day, you’re hoping that you see signs of development and progression.
“All the boys that have gone there have definitely improved. It’s been really, really good for them.”
Woodburn has already made his first team debut and became the youngest ever goalscorer for the Reds when he netted against Leeds in the League Cup quarter-final.
With Jurgen Klopp’s philosophy of training players and trusting the youth set-up, and Woodburn’s ever-increasing reputation in the academy, it could only be a matter of time before we see the Welshman getting regular first-team football.
