Liverpool’s set to compete in Premier League Asia Trophy
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side will face former Premier League champions Leicester City, as well as West Brom and Crystal Palace at this year’s Premier League Asia trophy, as per a report in the Telegraph.
The prestigious Hong Kong tournament held in July will feature in Liverpool’s pre-season schedule as they look to prepare for the 2017/18 season.
Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace replace Shanghai SIPG who have pulled out of the tournament. This is the first time that the tournament will not feature a local representative.
The tournament failed in their hopes of persuading another top six club to take part, as Premier League champions Chelsea have already agreed to play Arsenal in a one-off friendly in Beijing.
Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City have too confirmed their pre-season plans as they all head to the United States, leaving Liverpool to take the role as the tournament’s big attraction.
This will be Liverpool’s second participation in the tournament, having finished as runners-up in 2007.
The Premier League is expected to release tournament details in the next few days, as all four Premier League clubs look to boost their profiles in Asia.
