Liverpool have already stuck a club-record deal to sign Naby Keita from Red Bull Leipzig next summer for £48m but the Reds have been linked with smashing that record in the January transfer window.
Sports Illustrated note that Liverpool are among clubs that are eager to sign highly-rated Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is valued between €70m and €80m by the Serie A club.
It is believed that Lazio will try to keep hold of the 22-year-old midfielder at all costs. So far this season, Milinkovic-Savic has netted four goals and four assists.
The Reds will be looking for a replacement for Emre Can who looks destined to depart for Juventus on a free transfer at the end of the season. Schalke star Leon Goretzka has also been mentioned as a possible target but Liverpool face competition from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona for the young German.
Juventus, Manchester United and Manchester City have all also been linked with a move for Milinkovic-Savic this season after the former Genk standout began to impress week in, week out in Serie A.
According to his agent Mateja Kezman, the versatile midfielder is unlikely to leave anytime soon.
There’s interest from many Spanish, English and Italian teams but we’re not going to leave Lazio. The lad is happy in the capital, Coach [Simone] Inzaghi and the club are doing great things for him and Sergej is growing every day.
