Jurgen Klopp hails Liverpool’s squad depth
Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about the impressive squad depth he currently has at his disposal and about the return of Danny Ings.
The Reds are well on track for a second consecutive top four finish currently and are all but through to a Champions League quarter-final too.
Klopp believes that the competition for places going on at the moment will help keep Liverpool’s standards high, after an impressive 5-0 demolition away at Porto last week.
The likes of Dominic Solanke, Ben Woodburn and Ragnar Klavan did not even make the bench in Portugal.
Klopp, speakin to the Liverpool FC official website, said:
They’ve all made really big steps. Dom Solanke was not in the squad but is in outstanding shape at the moment. Ragnar Klavan, unbelievable. Ben Woodburn makes steps and is really close to everything. It’s really hard in the moment to make the squad. Wow, I’ve never had a situation like that with the quality of players not being in the squad.
Klopp was very pleased he could hand Danny Ings his Champions League debut last Wednesday and was quick to praise the striker:
It was fantastic but he deserves it .It’s a wonderful story, Danny made it, he came on and it was nice to see He needed time. A few months ago it was different, but a player like him when they come back they think ‘I am under pressure’ and they want to come in immediately and get game time. Danny went the hard way. He played a lot of games for the u23s. That he is back now is very important for us and fantastic for him.
