Liverpool have reportedly made their opening move to recruit Marco Asensio from Real Madrid.
It’s claimed by Mundo Deportivo, as translated by Sport Witness, that the Reds have already submitted a substantial offer for the player, who could be set for an exit from the Bernabeu this summer.
Asensio struggled to nail down a place in Zinedine Zidane’s starting line-up at Real last season but following the arrival of Julen Lopetegui, his future remains uncertain.
The wide playmaker is currently out in Russia on international duty with the Spanish national squad as they look to achieve World Cup glory.
However, it seems Asensio could be set to play his first-team football elsewhere next term if a move to Anfield is of interest to him, with Mundo Deportivo indicating that the Reds are indeed keen to land him.
It’s stated, rather sensationally, that Liverpool have made a move worth €180m for the player – a deal that would smash the club’s transfer record.
It is, of course, unlikely that the Reds would spend this type of sum on a player this summer, but their interest in Asensio has been well documented and it would come as no surprise to see Jurgen Klopp push for the player’s arrival.
