Liverpool will travel to Napoli’s Stadio San Paolo when the two sides meet in the Champions League next month, after suggestions the fixture could be moved.
It was reported that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had asked to play Champions League fixtures in Bari, 160 miles from Naples, but UEFA have now confirmed to Sky Sports News that no such request has been received.
De Laurentiis said:
The stadium of Napoli is a nightmare. Such a bad stadium limits the status of Napoli at an international level.
But it is understood that Napoli will play their home fixtures at their usual stadium, despite the club chief revealing he’d pay for the transportation of Napoli fans to and from Bari’s San Nicola stadium.
Liverpool also face Red Star Belgrade and Paris St-Germain in their Champions League group, as they aim to replicate last season and go a long way in this year’s tournament.
