Nabil Fekir has admitted that he had a point to prove as he played on English soil for the first time since his failed move to Liverpool in the summer.

The French international came very close to securing a move to Anfield prior to the World Cup but the deal collapsed at the last minute, with reports suggesting that the Reds were unhappy with an issue that came up during his medical.

Fekir was the star of the show as Lyon pulled off a huge upset victory over Manchester City and he admitted that he wanted to prove himself on English soil.

Reporter Jan Aage Fjortoft quizzed Fekir on whether his superb performance was somewhat spurred on by revenge.

Fekir replied:

It’s not revenge, but I want to prove I’m a good player.

Lyon defeated City 2-1 at the Etihad, with Fekir getting a goal and an assist.

If his aim was to prove how good he was, he certainly did just that.
