Klopp hails Salah’s desire to work for the team
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed Mohamed Salah’s defensive contribution for the team this season.
The Reds boss was quizzed on Salah’s arguably underwhelming start to the new season but expressed no concerns over his star man’s form, hailing his selfless work ethic.
As quoted by BBC Sport, Klopp was quick to jump to the defence of Salah amid recent criticism.
On the defensive side, the past two games he was outstanding, perfect. That says everything about him. He is really ready to work for the team in these moments.
It is a completely normal situation for an offensive player that they have times when they don’t score. But he is still a threat, has fantastic situations in both games and he is in good shape.
The winger comprehensively finished as the Premier League’s top goalscorer last term but has struggled to carry this form forward, netting only twice so far this season.
However, Klopp does not feel this is a cause for concern. After all, at this stage last season, Salah had only found the net on one more occasion.
No-one remembers that [how he started last season]. Wow, that is a crisis. It is really no problem.
Egypt international Salah will undoubtedly view Liverpool’s upcoming fixture against Southampton as a strong opportunity to get back to his goalscoring ways.
Last term, against the Saints, Salah found the net three times in two games. He’ll be keen to extend that tally when the two sides lock horns at Anfield on Saturday.
