Looking at a 3-0 scoreline, one would think that Liverpool had dominated Watford but that wasn’t really the case.
What Liverpool did was defend excellently and show moments of great quality in the final third.
It wasn’t all pretty as the Reds toiled at times, and Jordan Henderson’s red card was a late blow but Liverpool once again proved that they are very much in the title race with a tough away win.
Liverpool player ratings: Watford (A)
Alisson - 6
Got away with a very poor pass early on that could have led to a Watford goal. Made a good save late in the first half to deny Roberto Pereyra. Was a spectator in the second half.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7
Didn’t start well with some loose touches and passes to put the Reds in a bit of bother in the first-half. More than made up for it with a stunning free-kick to make the score 2-0 and he defended much better after the break too.
Dejan Lovren - 9
An excellent display from Lovren. Sniffed out the danger on the cover numerous times, bought good fouls when needed and was more than a match for a physical Watford side.
Virgil Van Dijk - 10
How good is this man? Absolutely brilliant, that’s how good he is. Didn’t put a foot wrong and kept the physical Troy Deeney in his back pocket. The best in the world at the minute.
Andy Robertson - 8
Was up and down the left all game and was fantastic in the build-up to the third goal to counter well and set up Mane’s shot
Jordan Henderson - 3
Looked off the pace the whole game and it was no surprise to see him pick up a second yellow card in the 82nd minute, one that led to him being sent off.
Gini Wijnaldum - 7
Had a good chance to score midway through the first half but couldn’t connect with a Shaqiri free-kick. Put in such a tireless display, closing the ball down and making lung-busting runs when he gained possession.
Xherdan Shaqiri - 7
Bit quieter in the second before he was taken off.
Sadio Mane - 7
Had an acrobatic effort saved by Foster. Was looking a touch off the pace but came alive to assist Salah for the opener and his shot led to the third goal.
Mohamed Salah - 8
Had a good header saved by Ben Foster late in the first-half. Looked dangerous as he made some good runs but the ball never quite got to him. Beat the goalkeeper in the second with a first time shot that he probably should have saved. Loves a goal against Watford!
Roberto Firmino - 7
Played in a deeper role, as he’s done quite often. Looked lively bit Watford marked him pretty well. Did really well to find Mane in the build up to the first goal and was on the spot to head home the third.
